How To Motivate People
This is an age old question. If you are doing straight affiliate marketing, Adsense, or CPA type marketing it is nothing for you to worry about.
If, on the other hand, you are in any type of network marketing program or one that requires you to get people in your downline; this is a vital thing to know.
For these types of programs to succeed you need to be able to build an organization. You need to get people under you that will eventually produce enough residual income so you do not have to work as much.
That is the goal and the dream of everyone in these programs. To work now and produce a stream of income that will last a lifetime.
So what is the reality?
As anyone who has been involved in these type of programs, you will get people to sign up and they may even do well – in the beginning. You are told that you need to motivate your people to produce and you will get results.
A lot of people will not like what I am going to say next. Many will not agree with it at all. I am speaking from a couple of decades of experience.
So what is the secret to motivate people?
There is no secret. You cannot do it. It is impossible.
What you say?
Have you ever heard the old adage about bringing a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink? This is the secret to motivation.
You can listen to tapes, lectures, watch videos on YouTube, or read many motivational books. Many people do every day. The problem is, for most people, it is a short lived boost. It is like a car that you have to keep squirting starter fluid in the intake to keep it running. Once you stop – you are done.
When they are not trying to be ‘motivated people’; they are not. They are wanna-be motivated people. No matter how many times they are brought to the river, they will not really drink. They are just not thirsty. They say they want to succeed but usually do the opposite.
The bare truth is if someone doesn’t really want to succeed – you can’t make them. No matter what they say. Actions speak louder than words. People will complain that this isn’t working for them or that isn’t working for them and no matter how hard you try, you won’t be able to make them a superstar.
The ones that are out there doing it and getting results are the ones you never have to worry about. They already have the want and desire to succeed. They will go the distance and make the grade.
The truth about most network marketing type businesses is you only need a handful of people to make it work great. If these handful of people are the right ones.
Don’t believe me?
Take a look at this article. It is an article by the late Jim Rohn who was considered a master motivator.
Don’t Send Your Ducks to Eagle School by Jim Rohn
Learning this truth will help reduce your stress levels in any business that relies on the work of others to get the job done. This is even if it is a person who works for the local burger joint.
This is why no matter how easy or simple something is – you will have people who will fail in it miserably. Everything will work on paper. When you put people into the mix you will not have the results you hoped for.
So how do you find these people who are self-starters and will help make you rich?
Very carefully.
They are not on every corner. You will go through a lot of wanna-be people before you find a single one. This is why once you find them and get things going you will do well.
If you are slow to get a lot of people into your business it will take you much longer to succeed in it.
If everyone were motivated, and could be motivated, to make a million dollars – why isn’t everyone millionaires?
It is like panning for gold. You will spend a lot of time and see a lot of dirt before you find the shiny object you desire. It takes time. It takes patience. It take persistence.
So the next time you look at all the people in your program that signed up and do nothing, don’t fret and scream, “why don’t they do anything!”. You have found the dirt, but there is gold there and you just have to keep panning to find it.
