Things to Help You Make Money on the Internet
After doing this craziness called Internet marketing for a couple of years now I have learned a few things. Now what I have observered many of you have probably already deduced – if you haven’t been “in trenches” long enough this will hopefully be enlightening. Now if you have been paying attention, no matter what they say, you will not make thousands of dollars in a few days or get thousands on your list in the same period of time
The hard truth is that you can make money on the Internet. It is not just “put up a blog and have the cash roll in” as most of you have probably figured out. Making money online is no different than having a store on main street; it take work to make it profitable. There are some basic traits that you will need to have or pay to acquire. There are 2 traits (in my opinion) that you absolutely need or you will fail.
First, most would say you need a burning desire to succeed. I have found that just a burning desire to do something is not always enough. You can have a burning desire to be the smartest person in the world, but there are many things that will make this unlikely. So what is it then? The most important thing is a goal and a realistic plan to get there. I have seen too many people who are super enthusiastic and make a lot of money at first, but they have no plan or end game and burn out quickly.
Now this may be fine for some as they go from one thing to another burning bright for awhile then go to something else when they start to dim. We have all seen this person. What is success to you? Success will not necessarily be money, large houses, or fancy cars. These will sometimes trap you in ways you can’t even imagine now.
So why do you REALLY want to make money on the Internet? To be a stay at home mom, extra money, freedom, or something else? What will it take to get there? How will you implement these things?
So you need to have a plan and a goal. You will also need to be able to augment these if needed. Now the people who are “exceptions” are the ones that will get all the press. If you are this person – wonderful! Most of us are not.
Second, you will need either some talent or money. It doesn’t matter if it is making a blog, website, squeeze page, ad, email, or product – you will need the talent to do these yourself or have the money to pay someone to make it for you. You will have some middle ground as you can do some things yourself well; but maybe not all of them. Now again you will have the ‘exceptions’ to this that will make the news.
You will need to be realistic in your abilities. I have seen too many poor looking blogger or freewebs pages asking me to give them my money and I think, “You got to be kidding me?!” You must remember that what you put you name on will brand you and sometimes forever. This is from someone who didn’t really have the talent and didn’t want to pay to have it done right. Such a shame.
Now these are not what most people think are the most important things to have to be successful at making money on the Internet. I have found that some of the most successful people are not the ones you immediately think of when you think of successful people. The news is full of people who most would consider successful, but have major life issues. They have fame, money, and all the things – but their life is not a joy for them and those around them.
Now what you need to ask yourself is this: do you have the plan, talent, and money to be a success? An old and successful friend of mine once told me a piece of advice that is very true.
The advice is this:
It takes just as much time to make $10.00 as it takes to make $10,000.00
Which makes more sense to spend your time doing? We all know how to make $10.00, making $10,000.00 is just scaling things up and will require a plan, talent, and money to achieve. Think about that and scale up your plan. I will go a bit further in the next installment.
Until next time!
